Why The World is Attracted to Junkies

Josh was showing me his t-shirt collection and we were watching an 80s movie on skateboarding in the background with the sound off and somehow we got onto his theory of asexuality and the junkie.

Dude…

What?

Well, when you become a junkie the drug basically becomes your sex. Think of all the great junkies and think about how they became asexual when drugs became the number one thing in their life. Even when they get cleaned up. Think of Iggy Pop, think of Anthony Kiedis, Steven Tyler, you know, think of any of those people… I think its beyond masculinity or femininity. I think that the drug becomes the main thing, their driving force and its kind of like their sexuality instincts are erased.

Because they’re junkies?

Yeah, that becomes the paramount thing. Junk in general becomes the main focus. Think about Patti Smith, think about Dee Dee Ramon, think about any person who has classically been… Think about Sid Vicious, anybody that became a junkie through time you can see the point where that becomes the number one thing and the question of whether they kissed a guy or did this or did that is secondary. It’s not for a theatrical thing either. You know, you and your guitarist kiss on stage or share some antics or whatever… junk just becomes the number one thing. It’s true love between that person and the junk and there is no other thing that really can fulfill it. Our sexuality is characterized by who we want to attract and so when you are a junkie you don’t care anymore about who you attract, it all becomes about actions of love and showing love or closeness but there is no sexuality attached to it. When you are just part of the norm, you worry about if you are seen in public hanging all over another person of the same sex or how you look, make up, how you’re dressed… But junkies are sexually ambiguous because they no longer worry those things and that’s why the world is attracted to those people because they’re no longer trying to attract a man or a woman. There is only one thing that can fill that space in them. They are in love with something that is inanimate.

What does that mean?

I just made it up.
